Thanks to a generous special grant from the Michael Reese Health Trust, HMPRG  produced a video documentary about the Chicago Area Schweitzer Fellows Program.  The film vividly portrays the program through the reflections of current and past Fellows and members of the Schweitzer Advisory Council, and by showing the diverse and creative ways five Schweitzer Fellows have recently helped underserved Chicago communities, including:

  • a cancer prevention program for uninsured patients at CommunityHealth by UIC nursing student Michelle Ashley
  • health education for lesbian, gay and transgender youth and adult clients at the Night Ministry by UIC physical therapy student Uchenna Ossai
  • violence prevention and health education for former gang members with Maywood CeaseFire by Loyola medical student Hajirah Saeed
  • a mentoring  program at Senn High School for minority students interested in pursuing health careers by Northwestern medical student Feng Zhang
  • a dance/movement and discussion program for formerly homeless women at Deborah’s Place by Columbia College dance/movement therapy and counseling student Sara R. Van Koningsveld.

The film was shot by Two Parrot Productions,  a company that specializes in helping nonprofits tell about their work.

We are grateful to the Michael Reese Health Trust and to Two Parrot Productions for making this wonderful film possible.  It will be used to help us with recruiting new Fellows, and to introduce the Schweitzer Program to potential community partners and supporters.
