Download the Rally Flyer The leadership provided by HMPRG's Center for Long-Term Care Reform’s on the Elder Economic Security Initiative (EESI) in Illinois has led to a co-sponsorship opportunity for a Social Security rally on May 18th, 2011 : “Social Security: Keeping the Promise to All Generations.
The lead sponsor, Illinois’ Alliance for Retired Americans, is one of the newest EESI Illinois coalition members. The Alliance - a membership organization of retired Illinoisans - is a great organizing partner for the research and advocacy expertise that Health & Medicine brings to the table. As we know from EESI, the cost of living in the community for older adults is much higher than the federal poverty level and other eligibility levels for older adult programs and services. Social Security is a major income for many older Illinoisans; in fact over 1 in 5 older Illinoisans rely on Social Security for their entire income. As our nation’s budget deficit comes to a head over budgetary appropriations and budget planning, the EESI Illinois Coalition will continue to advocate for key programs and services for older adults that allow our older Illinoisans to live in economic security—including Social Security.
