From April 29 to May 1, 2016 Health & Medicine welcomed almost 200 guests for a weekend of events to celebrate the 20th anniversary of our Chicago Area Schweitzer Fellows Program and the 10th anniversary of our Fellows for Life alumni program.
The weekend provided an opportunity for us to give back and say thank you to the many individuals, organizations, and academic institutions who have supported the Fellowship’s community service work and featured opportunities to network, be inspired, and share best practices:
Schweitzer Leadership Award
On Friday, April 29 at Loyola University, Regents Hall, Meade Palidofsky, founder and artistic director of Storycatchers Theatre, was awarded the 2016 Schweitzer Leadership Award for her significant work to mitigate the social determinants of health and inspiring commitment to service. Fellows for Life Party
Following the Leadership Award, a Fellows for Life party provided an opportunity for Fellows for Life from the last 20 years of the Schweitzer Fellowship in Chicago to reconnect, network, and mark the anniversary.
Schweitzer 20th Anniversary Conference: Improving Community Health Together
All members of the Schweitzer network, communities, and stakeholders were invited to the 20th Anniversary Conference to learn from our presenters and each other about working with vulnerable populations and leadership in service. Held onSaturday, April 30 at Loyola University School of Law, sessions covered topics such as Community Engagement & Outreach, Priority Health Needs in Underserved Communities, Addressing Structural Inequities, Community Service as a Career Path, and Sustaining Community-Based Projects. View the conference agenda here.
The anniversary celebrations concluded with a service day for alumni and the community on Sunday, May 1. The community came together at two partner sites--Apna Ghar and the Chicago Park District--to end the weekend in Schweitzer spirit of service.
