To help address the nation’s serious and growing shortage of nurses, several years ago, the Chicago Area Schweitzer Alumni Program (Fellows for Life) and Rush University College of Nursing formed a partnership that provides mentoring support for underrepresented nursing students. Launched in December, 2008, with an initial group of 10 nursing students who were matched with Schweitzer Fellows for Life mentors, the program is still going strong. A sixth group of 12 nursing students and mentors was formed this month. Four of the current mentors are NCIN scholarship/Rush College of Nursing graduates who benefitted from the program and now wish to support its continuation.
