Pastor Torrey L. Barrett, I, is the Founder and Executive Director of the K.L.E.O. (Keep Loving Each Other) Community Family Life Center in Chicago’s Englewood neighborhood. Torrey’s passion for working with youth began after graduating from Louisiana State University. He worked for different social service organizations providing service to Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) participants and had a gift for inspiring the most difficult clients, earning him the reputation of being “The One” that could handle the rough kids. In 2004, Torrey’s reputation for providing quality service and his efforts for bringing about peace received international recognition. Torrey was appointed US Chapter President of Youth Federation for World Peace (YFWP). In that capacity, Torrey facilitated bringing large groups of youth from America overseas to engage youth in other countries in peaceful negotiations. He also partnered with Martin Luther King, III, and the Realizing the Dream organization to work with citizens of Nairobi, Kenya after the post-election violence that took place. Torrey’s work in the Middle East earned him an Ambassador for Peace title by the state of Israel. In March of 2007, tragedy struck the Barrett family when Torrey’s younger sister, Kleo Y. Barrett, was killed in a domestic violence incident. Torrey and his family immediately went into action and created two not-for-profit entities that address the need of eradicating domestic violence and building character and self- esteem to address the needs of the troubled youth of their community. Torrey organized and opened the K.L.E.O. (Keep Loving Each Other) Community Family Life Center (www.thekleocenter.org
). The K.L.E.O. Center brings about change in the lives of its participants by fostering an atmosphere of unity and teaching them to Keep Loving Each Other.
