2008-2009 Accomplishments
• Nomination of Center for LTC Reform Co-Director, Phyllis Mitzen, to Illinois Council on Aging.
• Convened a three part conference on person centered care to establish goals for Illinois. Ninety providers, policy makers, and stake holders attended.
• Submitted testimony on both FY09 and FY10 budget to advocate for the importance of sustaining funding for older adult services and supports in Illinois.
• Completed and disseminated papers on care coordination and caring for the caregiver for OASAC Service Expansion Committee to in recommendations to the Department on Aging.
• Conducted Advocacy Training for Board of Coalition of Limited English Speaking Elderly with updates on current LTC activity in Illinois.
• Instrumental in drafting Conflict of Interest statement to guide process of the OASAC Coordinated Points of Entry Work Group.
• Developed letter to Illinois Governor in support of Ombudsman program on behalf of the Council on Aging.
• Convened a Budget Forum to bring providers together to respond to massive cuts in the FY10 budget.
• Launched the Elder Economic Security Initiative and established advisory committee to guide activity in Illinois.
• Advancing policy discussion about older workforce through planned conference with University of Illinois Chicago partners.
• Drafted Ethical Statement using proceedings from Translating Values into Goals Conference.
• Disseminated Center’s Long-Term Care Newsletter to over four hundred and fifty individuals and organizations.
• Acted in advisory role for state Money Follows the Person initiative.
• Completed report on Enhanced Transition activity in Illinois through data collection and recommendations for future transitions from institutional care to home and community-based services and supports.
• Completed report with University of Illinois Chicago partners on Determination of Need/Service Cost Maximums in Illinois. Authored seven state comparison of best practices.
• Completed report on Caregiving in Illinois including suggested intervention activities and recommendations for expanded services for caregivers.
