On March 23, 2010, President Obama signed into law the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (P.L. 111-148), followed by the Healthcare and Education Affordability Reconciliation Act on March 25, 2010. These two laws make up what is commonly known as “health reform”, or the Affordable Care Act (ACA).
Health & Medicine has been working to understand the changes brought by reform and the potential impact in Illinois, especially for vulnerable populations, long-term care, and on the health care safety net. While the rules and regulations for most of the provisions are yet to be written and the States will largely be responsible for implementing the reforms, we have summarized important provisions and provide analyses on their impacts in Illinois.
