
In March, 2009, Health & Medicine hosted “Rebel Without a Pause,” a gala celebration at The Harold Washington Library Winter Garden honoring Quentin Young’s lifelong commitment to social and health justice.
The event drew 400 guests representing leaders of the business, medical and civic communities, healthcare activists, members of the broader philanthropic community, elected officials and policy makers. (Honorary
Chairs were Henry Bayer, Executive Director, AFSCME Council 31; US Representative John Conyers; US Senator Dick Durbin; Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan; 16th US Surgeon General David Satcher, MD, PhD; and Carmen Velasquez, Executive Director, Alivio Medical Center.)
Toasts and tributes were presented by Governor Pat Quinn, Public Health Commissioner Terry Mason, Representative John Conyers, and Dr. Timuel Black, among others.

The event also featured the premiere of “Revisiting the Scene: Quentin Young’s Chicago” a short documentary film shot on locations throughout the city and featuring Dr. Young; produced by Health & Medicine and directed by Chicago filmmaker Judy Hoffman.
