At Health & Medicine, we support the growing movement to make Election Day a national holiday. One of the most common barriers to voting cited is the demands of work and life. Making Election Day a national holiday makes it easier for those who otherwise would not be able to take time off of work to get out and vote.

We face unprecedented challenges in the 2020 elections, including the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and the global movement for racial equity, which has highlighted ways in which communities of color are disproportionately affected by systemic voter suppression. This election is critical to the future of public health, and to the future of our democracy. If you haven’t already cast your ballot, please get out and vote!
