“CCHHS must provide safe, affirming sanctuary in all of its facilities”

On May 26, Health & Medicine’s Director of Health Equity Wesley Epplin and Board Member Linda Rae Murray again testified before the Cook County Health and Hospitals System Board, urging the System to ensure that all patients and clients of the CCHHS are provided safe, affirming sanctuary in all of its facilities. Epplin and Murray’s remarks follow-up on similar testimony earlier this year.

“There’s no way to advance health equity—to engage in this process of assurance—without affirming safety and sanctuary for all people in health system facilities,” Epplin said. “CCHHS can neither stay true to its mission nor implement its strategic plan without proactively affirming and ensuring patient and client safety.”
