Millions of Illinoisans currently on Medicaid are receiving letters about the Medicaid redetermination process, which requires individuals to submit documentation in order to renew their Medicaid. Some will lose coverage because they’re no longer eligible, others will be unable to complete the renewal process because of administrative issues ranging from not receiving the letter to struggling with the identity verification process. In April 2023, Health & Medicine surveyed 47 Illinois organizations working with Medicaid populations to understand their plans for assisting clients with Medicaid redetermination and to gauge what support is needed to help keep as many Illinoisans insured as possible.
