What We Do

Overview

Since 1981, Health & Medicine has been at the forefront of addressing health inequities. Here in Illinois a story of transformation is unfolding. It’s a story of building bridges and forging opportunities to make human rights and health justice realities for all.

Health & Medicine projects work across these areas:

  • Movement building and advocacy for equity and health justice
  • Health systems transformation and strengthening
  • Training, education and capacity building
  • Special projects and technical assistance for systems and policy change

We champion policies for justice, equity, and the human rights of health and health care for all people in our state, conduct critical research, develop coalitions, and convene people at forums and other discussions to build relationships and plan for policy change. Our work is built on decades of relationship building with elected officials, policymakers, researchers, health systems, community-based organizations and those impacted by policy in Illinois. We are nimble in our approach, adjusting to address immediate challenges all the while working to address persistent long term public health problems.

This is our story—a tapestry of hope and opportunity, building a broad movement for health equity in Illinois.
